IBEW Fourth District International Vice President Brian Malloy

IBEW International Vice President Brian Malloy lost a heroic battle against cancer on Saturday August 22, 2020.

Brian served the IBEW and its members with energy and distinction. Local 1900 knew Brian well as our International Vice President. We will miss him. Our sincere condolences go out to his family.

The IBEW Fourth District covers Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Washington Gas Contract Extension Ratified

By more than a 2 to 1 margin Local 1900 Washington Gas members ratified a 1-year contract extension today. The contract will now expire on July 31, 2021.

Many thanks to Julie Eyler, Jeff Smith and Vedesh Bisnath for their efforts in reaching the agreement with Washington Gas.

This was the first time in Local 1900 history that a contract vote was conducted by mail.

Deadline Extended For Washington Gas Contract Vote

In order to provide the maximum amount of time for Washington Gas members to vote over the proposed contract extension, the deadline for Local 1900 to receive ballots has been moved to 5:00PM on Friday July 31, 2020.

On June 4, 2020 Local 1900 and GenOn completed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) over the Chalk Point/Morgantown RIF and the Dickerson plant closure. Local 1900 will closely monitor the implementation of the MOU.

GenOn Stewards have been provided a copy of the MOU.

Plant Chief Stewards Russell Burch, Bobby Jameson and Bill Mills were on the Local 1900 team that negotiated this MOU. Members can contact them with questions as well as the Local 1900 office staff.

Local 1900 May 2020 Membership Meetings Cancelled

Due to the continued threat of the COVID-19 virus, and to be in compliance with restrictions placed on gatherings, Local 1900 May membership meetings have been cancelled. Our IBEW Fourth District Vice President approved the cancellations.

Local 1900 Demands Bargaining Over COVID-19 Issues

On Tuesday March 31, 2020 President Jim Griffin sent letters to each Company we represent, GenOn, Pepco and Washington Gas, advising them that bargaining over issues surrounding COVID-19 must begin.

While we have been in contact with all 3 Companies over these past weeks it is necessary to enter into more formal discussions.

Each Company has it's own distinct considerations, yet, they also share many identical ones.

We intend to discuss a wide range of topics such as pay, sick leave, child care, overtime, safety, and more.

If you have any concerns or suggestions you think we should address go through your Stewards or contact the office staff directly.

Local 1900 has been in contact with all companies we represent regarding the coronavirus pandemic. We have discussed concerns we have over the unprecedented issues facing our members at this time.

Each company is at different stages in addressing our concerns and their response to the pandemic from a business perspective.
